13:49The death toll in Greece from coronavirus has risen after a 52-year-old woman succumbed to the disease in Athens earlier today, reports Helena Smith, the Guardian’s Greece correspondent. The death of the woman, described as suffering from serious underlying health problems, brings the total number of fatalities to 302 in Greece. Athens has become the centre of what senior government officials are calling a “troubling” surge in cases. From Monday to Friday, health officials registered 555 cases of coronavirus in the greater Attica region, out of 1,232 recorded nationwide. Home to nearly half of Greece’s total population, the Attica region has the country’s biggest urban concentration.
