Coronavirus: Mobile data free for key Covid-19 information

Ministry of Health to pay mobile data charges when people use key Covid-19 websites. Mobile data used for looking at key health information, including essential Covid-19 information, will no longer be charged for, Health Minister Chris Hipkins says. Anyone using mobile networks operated by Spark, Vodafone and Two Degrees could now access 11 key health websites and two GP portals free of data charges, Hipkins told a Covid-19 briefing on Thursday. All the mobile data charges for accessing websites involved would be charged back to the Ministry of Health until June 2021, with a six-monthly review to confirm extensions. The move was made after feedback from health providers around the country that the cost of mobile data was proving to be a barrier for people to access key health and wellbeing information and services.
