Coronavirus: Lidl to recruit 2,500 workers to keep up with demand from shoppers

Lidl's move follows similar hiring sprees announced by Co-op and Aldi, as supermarkets struggle to keep up with demand and shoppers clear shelves. Other stores are re-deploying staff from less busy departments to help out, with Waitrose and Marks & Spencer both transferring people to their food departments to cope with demand. (Image: South Wales Echo)Aldi said it was "recruiting like never before" with thousands of roles being made available across the country. Co-op is creating 5,000 store-based jobs to provide temporary employment for hospitality workers who have been sidelined by the coronavirus crisis. Permanent jobs will also be on offer at the Co-op's 2,600 stores across the country.
