The 13,000 capacity arena, which had been scheduled to host Disney on Ice and Scotland’s biggest hair and beauty trade show, will instead become a medical centre ready to use when hospitals overflow. Catherine Calderwood, Scotland’s chief medical officer, said that the site could have all the support services needed to deal with an influx of patients including scanning equipment, diagnostic testing capacity, a laboratory and a morgue.
