Coronavirus: Fuller's cancels rent costs for more than 200 independent pubs

The pub giant, which announced plans to shut 215 of its own branches on Friday, said it will now wipe charges for around 200 pub tenants, many of whom are independently run. However unlike the banking industry's mortgage breaks for homeowners - the money will not have to be paid back. On Friday, Fuller's boss Simon Emeny, confirmed that its pub and hotel sites would close by Monday - and did not know when they would re-open again. It follows the closure of Primark, McDonald's, Nando's and thousands more outlets across the UK after the Government told all pubs, bars and restaurants to close to discourage public gatherings. Wetherspoons boss, Tim Martin, meanwhile, has refused to close his pubs, slamming the Government's advice as "over the top".
