Coronavirus: Footballers urged to support first aiders to ensure Premier League return

St John provides almost all first aiders to Premier League matches - and the charity say it would be “impossible” to restart professional football unless they can bounce back after the crisis. On Tuesday, Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced a £750m package of support for charities struggling after fundraising events and charity shops were forced to close. Voluntary sector bosses say the total shortfall in income over the next 12 weeks will be more than £4 billion. And St John CEO Martin Houghton-Brown told the Mirror it will need £6 million in donations on top of their share of the government cash if it is to rebuild after the crisis. The entire St John organisation is now focused on tackling the Covid-19 pandemic, supporting NHS hospitals with volunteers and providing ambulance services.
