Coronavirus: English cricket put on hold until May 28 with County Championship truncated

The impact of the coronavirus pandemic means the first seven rounds of the County Championship have been axed with fingers crossed that cricket might be able to begin in time for two of the more lucrative elements, namely the Blast and the international programme. Those in charge at the ECB are hopeful that they have given the game enough clarity as well as breathing space before revisiting the schedule as things become clearer with covid-19. ECB Chief Executive, Tom Harrison, said: “The decision to delay the start of the season has been essential, given the circumstances the nation faces. “We will make the very best of whatever length of season we are able to safely schedule in the coming months. “Securing the future of the game will be a primary focus as we plot a revised schedule with an emphasis on the most financially important forms of the game for the counties across international and domestic cricket.’
