The coronavirus has had an impact on the cruise ship industry and it's not known when the season will resume. Cruise ships have set sail from New Zealand waters because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but they have left a debt of marine fees in their wake. During the 2019/20 season there were 133 cruise ships scheduled to visit and a similar number are booked for the upcoming season. “While there have been no cancellations to date unless the New Zealand border reopens international cruise ships visits won’t occur,'' Smith said. Cruise ships were temporarily banned from entering New Zealand waters from March 14 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
