According to Africa Centres for Diseases Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the number of confirmed cases on the continent reached 1,759,794 on November 10, with 42,336 deaths. The most affected African nations are South Africa, Morocco, Egypt, Ethiopia and Nigeria; with Southern Africa the hardest hit region in terms of confirmed cases and deaths, followed by North Africa. Chief co-ordinator of Zimbabwe’s COVID-19 task force Dr Agnes Mahomva said Southern African countries are collaborating with WHO and Africa CDC in vaccine development and clinical trials. In short, MSF said, the companies could not be trusted to act in the interest of public health because they placed profit over all else. Without decisive action from governments demanding more transparency from companies, equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines is in jeopardy.
