Cork man Morgan McSweeney resigns as Keir Starmer’s chief of staff over Mandelson scandal

Cork man Morgan McSweeney has resigned as chief of staff to British prime minister Keir Starmer after coming under fire in the Peter Mandelson scandal. In a statement, Mr McSweeney said the decision to appoint Mr Mandelson to the top diplomatic job was “wrong”, and said he took “full responsibility” for advising Keir Starmer to go ahead. Mr McSweeney said: “After careful reflection, I have decided to resign from the government. “When asked, I advised the prime minister to make that appointment and I take full responsibility for that advice. “I remain fully supportive of the prime minister.
