Cork encouraged to follow San Francisco and ban sale of furCORK is being encouraged to follow the lead of its sister city San Francisco and ban the sale of fur. "Since so many people are turning their backs on fur, PETA is calling on Cork to take a step forward and ban its sale," PETA Director Elisa Allen said. "By going fur-free, the city would join San Francisco in sparing huge numbers of animals extreme suffering and an agonising death on fur farms around the world." San Francisco’s ban comes into effect at the start of 2019, although retailers will be allowed to sell existing stock for another year after that. Animal rights activists have welcomed the fur ban legislation but some retailers have objected.
