The Cord Parliamentary Group will sue Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet and officers for causing the death of six protesters in Kisumu and Siaya. This follows a consultative meeting yesterday between all Cord MPs and senators at the Wiper secretariat, led by co-principals Raila Odinga and Moses Wetang’ula. They also resolved to mount similar proceedings for more than 20 protesters wounded by bullets as a result of the anti-IEBC demonstrations. Speaking to the media after the meeting, Siaya Senator James Orengo said they resolved to sue Boinnet so that he is “held personally responsible for the killing of peaceful protesters by police”. Cord has been leading protests against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, saying it cannot be trusted to carry out free and fair elections.
