Cop whose gun killed Eric Osawe tells inquest he wishes he’d been shot himself

The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Sept. 29, 2010 as ETF officers executed a search warrant of Osawe’s Etobicoke apartment. Cavanagh ordered Osawe to get on the ground, where he figured he could most easily take control and handcuff him. Cavanagh said he next saw Osawe reaching under his dresser and seemed like he was looking for something, possibly a gun. At the time, officers had the choice of wearing a Y sling or an H&K sling. Michael Forestell, an ETF training officer, testified Wednesday that the H&K sling is now the only one issued to ETF officers carrying MP5 guns.
