The impact will hit nursing homes in the state hard because almost two-thirds of their residents are on Medicaid. The percentage is even higher in Coos County, and St. Vincent Acting Administrator Michael Takesian said 75 percent of the residents are on Medicaid. Under the BCRA, nursing homes face an additional cut of about a $1 million each. Donna Walin, director of nursing at St. Vincent, said it is increasingly challenging to provide quality care. It has hit Coos County nursing homes hard because the funding shortfall makes it hard to compete with better paying facilities.
