CAIRO – 25 November 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty delivered Monday a speech at the opening of the 10th session of Rome MED Dialogues highlighting that energy could be the main area of cooperation among Mediterranean countries, whether regular or new, as well as electricity linkage. The minister also stressed the importance of making available legal migration opportunities, as one of the means of combating illegal migration, whose causes pertinent to lack of developmental must be remedied. On the other hand, the Egyptian minister warned that the wars in Gaza Strip and Lebanon might compose a threat to the security and peace of the Mediterranean. In that framework, he urged a ceasefire, hostage-prisoner swap deal, immediate and sufficient delivery of aid, noting that Cairo would host a ministerial meeting on humanitarian response to Gaza on December 2. Equally, he shed light on the security threats in the Red Sea, and their impact on navigation, the Suez Canal, and by default, the Egyptian economy, stressing that the issue should be resolved in a comprehensive manner by ending the wars in Gaza and Lebanon.
