Convert golf courses to public parksLast year, the Manila city government made a proposal to convert the Intramuros Golf Course into the Intramuros Forest Park. The few that exist are found in privately owned golf courses and some parts in exclusive subdivisions. Parks with trees and vegetation can lower local temperatures significantly, compared to the manicured golf courses and isolated golf fairways. Again, golf courses are usually private or fee-based facilities that only a very small percentage of the population uses. I can only hope that my many friends in the golfing communities will join me in this crusade of transforming metropolitan golf courses to public parks to better serve the public good in our extremely densely populated metropolis.
