Controversial multi-millionaire retail boss Gary Johnston has died at the age of 72 just weeks after he sparked a row with his neighbours by building a giant letterbox. Mr Johnston founded electronics retailer Jaycar in 1981 - a company which has since grown to more than 100 stores across Australia and New Zealand. Friends of the entrepeneur - who is believed to have passed away on Wednesday - paid tribute to the 'fierce businessman' on social media on Thursday. New South Wales Rugby League side Wests Magpies later paid tribute to Mr Johnston, who was a loyal supporter of the NRL feeder club. The 3.9m tear-drop shaped letterbox was semi-constructed above his holiday home in the luxury suburb before complaints from neighbours stalled the building work.
