Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad organised the conference on Saturday following the last year’s Global Forum on Migrant and Development, GFMD, hosted by Dhaka. The High Commission said High Commissioner Tarik Ahsan presented a paper on “Migration and Development: Contribution of Bangladesh to International Discourse”. The High Commissioner mentioned that Bangladesh had become a major emigrating country, with number immigrants living overseas accounting for 5.5 percent of the population. The remittance from the migrants is bolstering the macro economy as well as helping poverty alleviation in Bangladesh, he said. “Bangladesh believes that benefits of migration can be fully reaped in the long run only through its thoughtful management”.
