Contractor sues province over Labrador Correctional Centre expansion

The construction company hired to expand the Labrador Correctional Centre is suing the provincial government over alleged breach of contract and mismanagement as the project continues to drag past the anticipated completion date. (Zach Russell/CBC)Michael Cabot, lawyer for Moss Development, confirmed in an email Thursday that the company is still working on the project. The Labrador Correctional Centre is a minimum- and medium-security institution. According to public tender documents, Moss Development Corp.'s $9-million bid was chosen in 2021 over the other three companies, which submitted bids between $11.2 and $12 million. Moss Development Corp. has been the successful bidder on a number of major projects in Labrador and the Northern Peninsula, including the expansions to schools in Natuashish and Sheshatshiu.
