Data services such as data protection, disaster recovery and test data management have long been a practice of the storage infrastructure administration even though it is applications that are the first-class objects that directly drive business services. Likewise, in the case of test data management, what really needs to be managed are test applications and not just the test data. This additional structure and associated metadata makes application data more queryable and valuable. The challenge on the horizon at this point is to build modernized and application-centric versions of data services on top of this common repository. Test data management should become test application management and so on.
