A highly contagious horse disease called strangles has hit New Brunswick, prompting some equestrian events to be postponed or cancelled to try to prevent it from spreading. It can take up to two weeks after exposure for an infected — and contagious — horse to exhibit symptoms. Biosecurity measures such as restricting the movement of horses, restricting visitors and good handwashing can help prevent the spread of strangles.
