Consumer confidence no worse than during GFC, Westpac survey finds

The Westpac McDermott-Miller Consumer Confidence Index fell 7 points to 97.2 points. But the survey usually indicates some level of confidence, so a score below 100 is low. (Video first published on May 22, 2020)The relatively moderate results of the confidence survey come in the wake of stronger-than-expected spending on bankcards in May. Westpac still expected very weak economic growth and a big increase in unemployment over the coming few months. Only the 18 to 29-year-old age group remained optimistic, with little loss in confidence since the last quarter.
