The principle in the Constitution making is that Constitutions are made by the people and not by the lawyers, Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Eran Wickramaratne said. Speaking in Parliament today, the MP said there were reports that the government has appointed an experts committee to draft a new Constitution. “The principle in Constitution making is that Constitutions are made by people and not by lawyers whether it was the Soulbury Constitution or the Constitutional process of 1972 under Sirimavo Bandaranaike. People had different opinions and some of them walked out but the principle was respected. The lawyers will take the principle and draft it,” he said.
