Barisal Metropolitan Police (BMP) have suspended constable Shafikur Rahman after a suspected thief managed to escape from Barisal Kotwali police station. BMP Assistant Commissioner Asaduzzaman confirmed this yesterday afternoon and said police were currently attempting to rearrest the fugitive, Sohel Rana. Barisal Kotwali police station Sub-Inspector Abu Taher said Abdur Rashid and Sohel Rana, suspected members of a motorbike stealing gang, had been arrested in Rupatali on Wednesday. Rashid had already made a confessional statement admitting his crime and Sohel was being interrogated further. Sources said Sohel was held in the reception room due to overcrowding at the police station and was able to escape from there due to the lax security measures.
