The first consignment of 264,000 covid vaccines provided by COVAX facility arrived in the early hours of today. State Minister Sudarshani Fernadopulle, Health Ministry Secretary Sanjeewa Munasinghe and UNICEF Sri Lanka Representative arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport to receive the vaccine consignment. The vaccines provided by COVAX will be administered to Sri Lankans starting next week, mostly to the Sri Lankans over 60 years residing in high risk areas. The Health Ministry stated that 1.44 million doses of the vaccine will be received by the COVAX facility in several consignments until the end of May 2021.
