OTTAWA–The Conservatives are pressing for more “sector-specific” supports in the Liberal government’s upcoming budget, including increased support for small- and medium-sized businesses facing the prospect of third wave lockdowns. Ed Fast, the Conservative finance critic, was not available to discuss the opposition motion Monday evening. The Liberals are approaching two years without an official budget, although Parliament has debated many pandemic-related economic supports and policy. But even as the Conservatives press the government for specific budget measures, the Liberals are accusing the opposition of obstructing crucial pandemic-related funding. “The Conservatives are proposing support measures that our government created last year.”
