Macdonald that stands there were met by protesters calling for the statue's removal. Calls to remove the Regina statue of Canada's first prime minister go back to 2017. They said the event was organized after protesters recently tore down a statue of Macdonald in Montreal. Scheer said the Regina statue is a celebration of Macdonald's positive contributions to Canada and "his role in the creation of the greatest country in the world."
