Conservation group bids to have Henley museum building listed


A LISTING application has been submitted for the former River & Rowing Museum site in Henley. The Twentieth Century Society, based in London, wants to preserve the building, which has been closed to the public since September last year. The group, which campaigns to protect Britain’s modern architectural and design heritage, has submitted a listing application to the River & Rowing Museum Foundation Trust and American real estate services company, CBRE. The Twentieth Century Society wants the museum building to be awarded Grade II listed status, following their listing application for 1 Cobham Mews in Camden, which was Chipperfield’s first UK building and former studio, which was designated as a Grade II listed building in August last year. Catherine Croft, the director for the society, said: “Before the Neues Museum and the Hepworth Wakefield, before the Pritzker Prize, there was the River & Rowing Museum in Henley.
