But charity Born Free, which works to 'keep wildlife in the wild', branded the situation 'disastrous', claiming it highlights the dangers of captivity for species such as wolves. Wildlife activists said the case provided proof that wild species should not be kept in captivity - suggesting stress could have caused the wolves to act aggressively. 'Wolves are highly social animals that live within complex family structures, and when those dynamics break down, conflict and rejection can increase. 'This decision was an absolute last resort, with the animals' welfare as our priority.
