Conman runs up hotel bill of £12,000 by telling the owners he was planning to buy the place

A fraudster ran up a hotel bill of £12,000 over four months by pretending he was going to buy the place. John Tomlin, 64, told the owner he had £1million being held by the taxman which he would use to buy La Trelade Hotel in Guernsey. John Tomlin, 64, ran up a bill of £12,000 at La Trelade Hotel in Guernsey (pictured) by pretending he was going to buy it. While the hotel owner did ask Tomlin about his outstanding hotel bill, he was allowed to stay there without paying any more money because he was buying the property. In October, the hotel owner challenged Tomlin and the defendant admitted not having money to purchase the hotel or pay his bill.
