“Congress president has appointed Ghulam Nabi Azad as general secretary in charge of Uttar Pradesh and Kamal Nath as general secretary in charge of Punjab and Haryana in place of Shakeel Ahmed with immediate effect. They are both seen as trustworthy by the party’s top brass,’’ a senior party leader from Uttar Pradesh said, requesting anonymity. While Azad has twice been the general secretary in-charge of UP, Nath has served as general secretary in-charge of states such as Gujarat and West Bengal. It may not happen at one go but in a more phased manner,’’ said another senior party leader, also requesting anonymity. While Azad is our leader in Rajya Sabha, Kamal Nath, too, is one of our most senior leaders.
