Congress CMs urge Rahul Gandhi to stay on as chief, make organizational changes

NEW DELHI: Amid an ongoing leadership crisis in the party’s central unit, chief ministers of five Congress-ruled states on Monday urged party president Rahul Gandhi to continue in his post while initiating organizational changes with a free hand. Gandhi had offered to resign on 25 May after the party’s rout in the Lok Sabha elections, a decision which the party’s working committee rejected. Asked whether the chief ministers had offered to resign to Gandhi in the meeting, Gehlot said: “The offers of resignation have been happening since result day. Chief ministers lead elected governments and they have to resign. The developments in the Congress comes months ahead of key assembly polls in Haryana, Jharkhand and Maharashtra later this year.
