Cong. to mark note ban anniversary with demonstration


more-inAs part of its nationwide drive against demonetisation, the city Congress unit will hold a protest at Azad Maidan in south Mumbai on Wednesday to mark the first anniversary of the note ban. Congress workers will pay tribute to the people who died while standing in queues outside banks to withdraw money in the aftermath of demonetisation in various parts of the country. The party had announced to mark the first anniversary of the note ban as a “black day”, after the NDA government announced that it would celebrate November 8 as “anti-black money day”. Mumbai Congress unit president Sanjay Nirupam said, “Some 115 people died while standing in queues to withdraw money from their own bank accounts. “Some party workers will tonsure their heads as a mark of protest,” Mr. Nirupam said.
