The Congress on Monday approached the Election Commission (EC) against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comment on former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi describing him a ‘bhrashtachari [corrupt] number one’ at a rally in Uttar Pradesh last week. Submitting the memorandum to the EC, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said the poll panel must decide on the complaint within 48 hours as questions about its credibility were being raised. PM’s speech clearedThe EC said it has not found any violation of its advisories and the Model Code of Conduct in Mr. Modi’s speech at Chitradurga in Karnataka last month. At a public rally on April 9, Mr. Modi had invoked the Balakot air strike, following which the State Congress alleged a violation. In seven speeches of Mr. Modi, the EC ruled no violation.
