The Governors Highway Safety Association hopes to change that. “Autonomous vehicles and burgeoning safety technologies hold tremendous potential for saving lives on our roads,” Jonathan Adkins, executive director of the association, said in a statement. The group will consider how to educate the public about these issues and will develop and provide a series of traffic safety recommendations that states, law enforcement and other safety professionals can use as they adapt their safety programs. Law enforcement, prosecutors, and judges are the “boots on the ground” for enforcing traffic laws, responding to traffic crashes and issuing formal judgments for traffic offenses, the association said in announcing the initiative.
