Post the Uri attacks in September, cultural exchange between India and Pakistan had come to a standstill. While Bollywood producers vowed not to work with Pakistani talent, Pakistan retaliated by banning the screening of Indian films. He is quoted as saying, "Yes, Kaabil is releasing in Pakistan tomorrow or day after tomorrow. I have just got a call from my distributor Satish Anand that the breakthrough has been done by Kaabil. Kaabil has held its own at the box office even though it was at an obvious disadvantage in the clash - it had lesser screens and shows.
