A marvel of engineering we haven't flown at speeds that high since - but we might be able to again soon. Boom Technology has now raised $100 million to produce a new plane, called the Overture which will fly at speeds up to 1,451 mph and has a range of 5000 miles. The company wants to launch the plane in 2023 and aims to sell the planes for $200 million each. The problem the company has is that getting an engine to support supersonic flight is difficult and wouldn't be useful to other jet aircraft. Concorde could take 100 passengers but this new jet promises to fly only 55 people.
