Some parts of the south and east have received over 450pc their normal level of rainfall over the last 10 days. One weather station, Johnstown Castle in Wexford, recorded its highest level of tri-monthly rainfall for 85 years. There are further fears that, if the wet weather continues into March, it may delay the planting season and, ultimately, have implications for the harvest. Met Éireann’s Ailís Hankinson said Ireland faces further rain showers in the next five days.
