But for the New Zealand Surf lifesavers, their fun is intrinsically tied to their work. The Central Region Championships (CRC) were held at New Plymouth's Fitzroy Beach on Saturday, hosting 163 lifeguards from Wellington, Hawke's Bay and Taranaki. Zac Reid, 17, from Fitzroy Surf Lifesaving Club, said he enjoys doing even his non-specialist events and having fun. "New Zealand's one of the best countries for surf lifesaving in the world so it's always quite competitive."
