Drivers on the eastbound lanes of the Gardiner Expressway can breathe a sigh of relief — the replacement for the York/Bay/Yonge exit ramp is open. Streetscaping and a multi-use trail along Harbour St. have yet to be finished, held up by the discovery during construction that at some point cement had been dumped into a sewer. When that happens, an anti-icing solution will be sent out by 22 nozzles positioned on each side of the ramp. Major work on the Gardiner Expressway east of Cherry St. will begin this year when the deck is removed and replaced with pre-fabricated sections. But he says they city learned early on during the ramp project that there has to be a balance between getting the work done and disrupting the lives of residents.
