The drop-in facility at Victory Community Centre has been arranged by Community Connect, an organisation of volunteers set up to fight what it calls the region's "runaway" meth problem. Earlier this month, Community Connect hosted a meeting in Nelson attended by nearly 300 people, which heard testimony from former meth users in the region and family members of addicts. The organisation announced the launch of the support group at the meeting, as part of its efforts to set up more help for people trying to kick the drug, also known as "P".
