Community Rallies To Help Injured Student


The Villages Charter School student is fighting for his life in the pediatric intensive care unit at University of Florida Health Shands Hospital, while his family of recent immigrants from Venezuela tries to cope with his condition and the community rallies behind them in hopes of a full recovery. Her daughter, Madison Kusky, a former student at the charter school, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in February 2015, turning both their worlds upside-down. Elysia Hurtado, a friend of the family and fellow charter school parent, said the entire situation is devastating to see. Hurtado has visited the Mogollons at Shands and is working with Goslinga and other TVCS parents to help alleviate some of their financial stress. It’s heartbreaking they have to experience something like this so early on.”In one week, charter school families, along with Anderson’s baseball team and other friends, raised $5,000 through a GoFundMe account — an online fundraiser.
