Edmonton is setting the stage for some international soccer this summer. At least, that’s the news expected to come from FC Edmonton, the City of Edmonton and Soccer Alberta on Thursday at Commonwealth Stadium, where a press conference is scheduled for what’s being touted as a special Edmonton Soccer Week announcement. Reid Wilkins of 630 CHED’s Inside Sports said on his Twitter account Wednesday that Commonwealth Stadium will be the cite of an international friendly between Cardiff City FC and Real Valladolid CF on July 20. Welsh-based Cardiff City was relegated from the English Premier League to the Championship League after finishing last season 18th out of 20th, while Real Valladolid, based in Spain, was purchased eight months ago by Brazilian former international star Ronaldo Nazario.
