Commercial jet maker Airbus is staying humble even as Boeing flounders. There’s a reason for that

The reason: Airbus already is making planes as fast as it can and has a backlog of more than 8,600 orders to fill. Models of Boeing aircraft are displayed during the Singapore Airshow in Singapore, Feb. 22, 2024. Airbus last year topped Boeing for the fifth straight year in the orders race, with 2,094 net orders and 735 delivered planes. “Boeing is winning some orders because Airbus can’t supply the airplanes,” Scott Hamilton, managing director of the Leeham Company consultancy, said. Brazil’s Embraer makes smaller regional jets, and so far has not moved to compete with Boeing and Airbus.
