Commercial construction projects were more affected by physical distancing requirements than residential builds. “Building activity in the June 2020 quarter was severely impacted by the alert level 4 lockdown, with a resumption in activity in late April under alert level 3,” acting building statistics manager Dave Adair said. “We expect that construction activity will rebound in the September quarter, back around the levels that we saw prior to Covid-19. While the alert level has been dialled up again recently, that’s not likely to have a major impact on construction activity. ”Provided the spread of Covid-19 on our shores remains contained, construction activity is likely to remain firm through late 2020 and in the early part of 2021.
