The treatment of Uighur Muslims in China’s northwestern territory of Xinjiang is slowly becoming a global scandal. Lily Kuo, our Beijing bureau chief, has been reporting on the Chinese state’s mass internment camps (later rebranded as “training schools”) for the past six months. Kuo also travelled to Chengdu to hear how the state is moving against Christian churches in a bid to stifle dissent.
