The Election Commission has warned the Comilla mayoral candidates of ruling Awami League and BNP not to violate the electoral codes. Media reported that Awami League-nominated Anjum Sultana Shima and BNP’s Monirul Haque Sakku, the former mayor, had started campaigning in the city flanked by party supporters, though it was prohibited by the law. Formal campaign for the second Comilla City Corporation election starts Wednesday. Rakib, also the Comilla regional election officer, said that the candidates in no way could start campaigns before the set date. “This is why they have been warned,” he told the Dhaka Tribune.
