But at the box office, the comedy genre is struggling. According to The Numbers, a site dedicated to tracking box office data, Crazy Rich Asians is the only comedy film in 2018 to crack the $100 million box office mark domestically. Game Night, the second best domestic comedy this year raked in just shy of $70 million dollars in domestic box office. For comparison, in 2013, eight comedy films crossed the $100 million threshold domestically in a very strong year for comedy. Compare that to 2005 when comedies made up 25.75% of the domestic box office take and 2000 when comedies made up 25.33% of the market.
