Darfield chief fire officer Alan Kittelty and community response team leader Andrea Horton-Gaskin will work together to better support the community. Two Darfield emergency groups are teaming up to better support the community,The Darfield Volunteer Fire Brigade and Darfield Community Response Team have decided to work together to help the Malvern community prepare for an emergency. “Our initial focus will be a pilot targeting people who are most likely to be isolated and cut off in an emergency, offering key Civil Defence emergency preparedness and home fire safety advice. District council community resilience co-ordinator Sue Jenkins said Fire and Emergency NZ came to them with the idea. Our council Civil Defence team does a lot of work promoting civil defence and being prepared for emergencies and FENZ also does a lot of community engagement promoting fire safety so working together was a good opportunity.
