The ad ends with an image of Biden, 81, and Trump, 77, outfitted like Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon in the 1993 movie “Grumpy Old Men.”So here’s the question: Is it fair criticism, or a cheap shot? The problem with the “grumpy” ad is that it crosses a line, mocking the front-runners as fumbling old fools and stooping to stereotypes about aging that further reinforce stereotypes about aging. Dr. Gene Dorio , a member of the volunteer California Senior Legislature and past president of the Los Angeles County Commission for Older Adults, watched Haley’s “Grumpy Old Men” ad and summed it up with a single word.
